Aleksandra Kmieć was born in 1972 in Wrocław, a city with a long and dramatic history. Until the Second World War, Wroclaw was called Breslau, it belonged to Germany and had been for centuries a great center of German culture. But since the end of the war, it is Polish and has become an important center of Polish culture. After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław in 1996, Aleksandra Kmieć began her career as an illustrator of children's books, working with the biggest Polish publishers. She is much appreciated by her admirers for the warmth emanating from her illustrations that are full of cheerful colors and also, for her sense of humor.
